aline rossi zara

is a Ph.D. candidate and artist at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Information, supervised by M.E. Luka. Their research focuses on voice, sound, embodiment, and AI at the intersection of critical AI studies, voice and sound studies, transfeminist science and technology studies, disability studies, and queer studies. They also activate research-creation methods to create projects such as in my building, nAIrrative Press, and alternative techniques for the theremin,  as well as beep zine, in collaboration with Lauren Knight. Their dissertation brings together media histories of synthetic voice technologies with research-creation and speculative workshops to critically explore the relationship between AI-generated voices and imaginary bodies. They are part of the Creative Labour and Critical Futures research cluster and the Critical Digital Methods Institute. Their written work has been published in Feminist Pedagogy; their creative work has been shown in exhibition as part of Oscillation (Paris) and elsewhere. Their research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC CGS-D). ​
